Unbelievably, near the end of the video it's stated that with more optimisation this may even be achievable on original hardware! Gave it a go just now to get a few stars and oh my lord it's wonderful <3 Only issues I've had are title screen playing too fast and one or two animation phases still being half rate, in other words very minor things.
